Lugano Jewelry, the United States luxury house known for its high-jewellery collections and unique, handcrafted designs, has begun a new chapter after being acquired by investment firm Middle West Partners alongside a consortium of the brand’s long-standing clients. The transaction, completed on 30 September 2026, follows a court-supervised asset sale and corporate restructuring that began after the company filed for Chapter 11 protection.
Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed. The purchase is intended to provide the operational stability and financial support needed for Lugano to continue serving its affluent clientele and preserving the artisanal craftsmanship that defines the brand. For Middle West Partners, the deal expands an existing luxury jewellery portfolio and strengthens its position within the high-end jewellery segment.
Middle West Partners already holds David Webb, the storied New York-based jewellery house it acquired in April 2025. Adding Lugano to the portfolio creates a complementary pairing of heritage-driven design houses, each recognised for distinctive creative identities and premium manufacturing standards. The acquisition underscores continued investor interest in established luxury brands that offer clear differentiation, durable customer relationships and niche market expertise.
From Restructuring to New Ownership
Lugano entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in November 2025, initiating a structured restructuring designed to stabilise operations and explore strategic options. As part of that process, Enhanced Retail Funding, a division of Gordon Brothers, initially acquired the company’s assets to facilitate an orderly transition. The subsequent sale to Middle West Partners and the group of longtime clients transfers the operating business to owners with both financial backing and an established affinity for the brand.
The new ownership arrangement brings together a private investment firm with experience in luxury goods and an investor cohort comprised of customers and supporters who have a direct connection to Lugano’s product, service standards and market. That combination aims to balance strategic capital with customer-focused stewardship, helping to preserve the brand’s identity while pursuing a sustainable business path forward.
As part of this rebrand and relaunch, the company will operate under the name Lugano Jewelry, replacing the prior identity, Lugano Diamonds & Jewelry. The simplified name aligns with broader marketing and branding efforts to present a clear, upscale identity in domestic and select international markets.
Leadership and Operations to Continue
Josh Gaynor, who had served as interim chief executive officer beginning in May 2025, has been appointed CEO and will join the company’s board. His permanent leadership role is intended to provide continuity through the ownership transition and into the next phase of the company’s development. Retaining an executive familiar with the business helps ensure consistent management of operations, client relations and creative direction.
Operationally, Lugano will maintain its headquarters and jewellery workshop in Newport Beach, California. Preserving the workshop safeguards the in-house craftsmanship and production processes that are central to the brand’s appeal. The company also plans to continue operating its four boutiques in Newport Beach, Aspen, Ocala and Miami, maintaining important retail touchpoints that serve both local customers and destination shoppers.
In addition to the fixed boutiques, Lugano will keep its travelling boutique program, which historically has served clients at equestrian events and other affluent circuits. This mobile retail approach has been an effective way for the brand to reach a specific high-net-worth audience and to deliver personalised service in locations where those clients gather.
Strengthening a Luxury Jewellery Portfolio
The acquisition highlights a broader trend of investment in legacy and niche luxury brands that combine strong craftsmanship with well-defined client relationships. For Middle West Partners, adding Lugano complements its existing holdings and deepens its exposure to high jewellery and bespoke services. For Lugano, the new ownership group provides resources and strategic guidance intended to stabilise the business and support future growth while preserving the creative and artisanal elements customers expect.
Key priorities under the new ownership will include maintaining Lugano’s brand identity, protecting customer relationships, preserving production quality in the Newport Beach workshop, and sustaining the retail footprint that connects the company to its clientele. The inclusion of longtime clients among the investors signals an intention to prioritize customer experience and the brand’s traditional service models as the company moves forward.
Although the financial specifics remain private, the transaction represents a meaningful milestone in Lugano’s recovery from its Chapter 11 restructuring. With a dedicated ownership group, leadership continuity under Josh Gaynor, and its established retail and production infrastructure intact, Lugano Jewelry is positioned to continue serving its discerning customers while contributing to Middle West Partners’ expanding presence in the luxury jewellery market.
