GemGenève: Five Editions of Brilliance

GemGenève’s November 2022 Edition Shines Bright: A Resounding Success for Global Jewellery and Gemstone Industry

GENEVA, NOVEMBER 8, 2022 – The curtain fell on the highly anticipated fifth edition of GemGenève, concluding its four-day showcase on Sunday evening, just ahead of the prestigious Geneva Luxury Week’s autumn auctions. This pivotal event firmly re-established its position as an indispensable gathering for professional jewellers, passionate enthusiasts, and the discerning public alike. Hosted at Palexpo, GemGenève welcomed a remarkable 3,543 unique visitors, who collectively generated an impressive 5,205 visits, with 1,662 individuals returning for a second immersion into the world of exceptional gemstones and groundbreaking new releases. This record-setting participation underscores the event’s growing influence and its unique ability to unite the industry and captivate a wider audience.

GemGenève’s distinctive format offers a dual experience: a dynamic marketplace for exhibitors to forge new business connections, and an unparalleled educational platform for the general public. Visitors had the extraordinary opportunity to delve into the multifaceted universe of jewellery, moving from stand to stand, captivated by exceptional pieces and rare treasures. From first-time buyers seeking inspiration to seasoned collectors hunting for their next prized acquisition, GemGenève provided an enriching and unforgettable journey into the heart of high jewellery and gemmology. The palpable excitement and engagement throughout the halls were a testament to the show’s meticulously curated environment and its unwavering commitment to showcasing excellence.

For this landmark edition, the organisers truly surpassed expectations, transforming Hall 6 into an inspiring and vibrant space that perfectly encapsulated the unique spirit of GemGenève. The visionary scenography, bathed in sophisticated orange and purple tones, created an inviting and elegant atmosphere. Grand avenues and spacious boulevards guided visitors through the exhibition, while intimate lounges dotted throughout provided perfect settings for discreet business discussions and informal networking. Every element of the design was thoughtfully crafted to enhance the visitor experience, fostering both discovery and commerce.

The architectural flow seamlessly integrated several highly appreciated thematic zones. ‘Le Village des Savoirs’ served as a hub for education and discovery, proudly hosting leading schools, the captivating Gem Museum of Singapore, and an intricate micro-mosaic exhibition that mesmerized onlookers with its artisanal brilliance. Adjacent to this, ‘Le Village des Designers’ provided a dedicated showcase for contemporary talent, bringing together innovative designers who are shaping the future of jewellery. Furthermore, a dynamic digital capsule attracted journalists, YouTubers, and podcast creators, amplifying the show’s reach and engaging a global online audience with real-time insights and stories from the heart of the event.

Adding a delightful touch of international Geneva charm, a miniature “Jet d’eau” was ingeniously installed in front of The Tom & Ronny’s Brasserie. This unexpected and iconic feature created moments of surprise and fostered a wonderfully convivial atmosphere among participants, embodying the joy and elegance inherent to the city of Geneva and the GemGenève experience. It was a subtle yet impactful detail that underscored the organisers’ commitment to creating memorable moments beyond the exceptional exhibits themselves.

The calibre and diversity of the exhibitors were a cornerstone of GemGenève’s success, with a total of 176 participants gracing the event. This impressive roster included 144 distinguished professional dealers, alongside a vibrant array of designers from the avant-garde Vivarium Quartet, promising Emerging Talents, and innovative New Designers. A particularly poignant and important highlight was the ‘Strong & Precious’ project, which proudly featured the remarkable creations of Ukrainian designers, offering them a global platform during challenging times. Educational institutions also maintained a strong presence with dedicated school stands, while the Villa stand showcased the exquisite display from the Singapore Gem Museum and the intricate micro-mosaics exhibition, enriching the cultural and historical dimension of the show. Esteemed literary offerings from the Bernard Letu and Gem Collectors bookshops further catered to intellectual curiosity, providing valuable resources for enthusiasts and professionals alike.

These 176 exhibitors thrived within an exceptionally favourable environment, which was meticulously designed to foster robust business interactions, stimulating discussions, and invaluable networking opportunities. Both seasoned connoisseurs and enthusiastic amateur collectors found themselves immersed in an atmosphere ripe for discovery and connection. As Ronny Totah, organiser and co-founder of the show, enthusiastically articulated, “This edition exceeded all our expectations in terms of numbers. We had slightly fewer exhibitors in November (176) than in May (201), but never before have we had so many buyers and other visitors.” This statement highlights a crucial success metric: not just the quantity of attendees, but the quality and purchasing power of the visiting audience, indicating strong commercial engagement.

Thomas Faerber, another esteemed co-founder, echoed this sentiment, adding, “It’s been a great edition. We’ve had positive feedback from many of those taking part about the organisation, design, and layout of the exhibition. Most of the exhibitors were visibly happy as they left the event, a sign of business having been good.” Such glowing testimonials from the very heart of the industry reinforce GemGenève’s reputation for impeccable execution and its ability to consistently deliver tangible value to its participants. The meticulous planning, the sophisticated aesthetic, and the strategic layout collectively contributed to an environment where business flourished and relationships were strengthened, solidifying the event’s standing as a premier global platform for the jewellery and gemstone trade.

The international appeal of GemGenève was unequivocally demonstrated by the diverse geographical origins of its visitors, who travelled from over 70 countries to attend this fifth edition of the Geneva International Gem & Jewellery Show. While a significant proportion hailed from Switzerland, France, and Italy, reflecting the strong European base, a considerable contingent also arrived from the UK, Belgium, and the USA. Furthermore, a growing presence from distant markets such as India, Germany, and the UAE underscored the show’s expanding global footprint and its ability to attract a truly worldwide audience. This international convergence creates a unique melting pot of cultures, ideas, and business opportunities, making GemGenève an indispensable event on the global luxury calendar.

The success of the November 2022 edition not only reinforced GemGenève’s position as a critical platform for the industry but also set an exciting precedent for future events. It proved that in an ever-evolving market, a show dedicated to quality, innovation, and an exceptional experience can thrive. The combination of serious business, educational insights, and cultural enrichment continues to draw a loyal and expanding community, eager to explore the finest gems and the most exquisite jewellery designs from across the globe.
