The industry is a vital engine of growth, contributing around seven per cent to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and providing employment to over five million individuals across various segments. This pivotal moment calls for global recognition of India’s immense jewellery design potential. It is time for the world to acknowledge India not just as a manufacturing hub, but as a pre-eminent ‘design destination’ for exquisite jewellery. Celebrating Visionary Winners: A Showcase of Brilliance
The grand finale of the Artisan Awards 2019 was graced by the presence of renowned actress Aditi Rao Hydari, adding a touch of glamour to an already sparkling evening. The culmination of months of meticulous work, the event saw the triumphant declaration of winners selected from an astounding pool of over 550 initial entries. From these numerous submissions, a discerning panel of judges had meticulously shortlisted 23 exceptional sketches, each representing a unique vision and profound artistic promise. These finalists were then tasked with the challenging yet rewarding endeavour of bringing their designs to life, transforming conceptual sketches into tangible, magnificent pieces of jewellery. This second round of judging was even more rigorous, with pieces evaluated against a comprehensive set of parameters. These criteria included the fundamental design aesthetics, the practicality and wearability of the pieces, their innovative elements, relevance to the enchanting ‘Enchanted Cosmos’ theme, and crucially, their makeability and manufacturing feasibility. Aditi Rao Hydari expressed her profound admiration, stating, “I am truly in awe of the breathtaking jewellery designs presented at the Artisan Awards 2019. I wholeheartedly applaud GJEPC for orchestrating such a brilliant and impactful initiative. It not only provides invaluable encouragement to our exceptionally talented jewellery designers but also magnificently brings forth our country’s immense jewellery designing prowess onto the global stage, showcasing it for the entire world to admire.” Her remarks underscored the profound impact of the awards in elevating India’s design stature internationally.

There was a time when Indian influence on luxury jewellery was undeniably evident in the iconic creations of revered houses such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Harry Winston, crafted for the Maharajas and Nawabs, showcasing an era of unparalleled grandeur and exquisite craftsmanship.” Shah highlighted the prescience of the GJEPC in selecting the theme, noting, “Incidentally, GJEPC astutely chose the theme of ‘Enchanted Cosmos’ even before it emerged as a significant design theme for the buying season of 2020, demonstrating our foresight in trend identification. We were absolutely overwhelmed to receive an astounding 550 entries from across India, each interpretation more unique than the last.
