Instore Expands Portfolio with Acquisition of JA New York Trade Shows

Instore has acquired the well-known JA New York trade shows from Emerald Holding, a move aimed at revitalizing a long-standing platform in the jewellery industry. Financial terms were not disclosed.

This purchase signals a notable change in the U.S. jewellery trade show scene. Instore says it plans to reposition JA New York as a central destination for independent retailers, suppliers and jewellery professionals, focusing on reconnecting the community and supporting business development.

Focus on Rebuilding Industry Engagement

Historically, JA New York hosted Spring and Fall trade events each year and was once a major fixture on the industry calendar. Before the pandemic, the shows drew roughly 10,000 attendees and over 500 exhibitors annually. Recent attendance data has not been released publicly, and the Summer edition has not been held since 2022.

Instore describes the acquisition as a strategic milestone for the sector. The company intends to enhance networking opportunities, improve commercial engagement and provide a platform that better serves the practical needs of independent retailers and suppliers.

Emerald Holding Refocuses Event Portfolio

The sale is consistent with Emerald Holding’s strategy to concentrate on higher-margin flagship events. Those include Couture in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Antique Jewelry & Watch Show, and NY Now, which covers gift, home, lifestyle and accessories categories.

The transaction comes as Emerald Holding itself undergoes change following its acquisition by Apollo Global Management, a major U.S.-based private equity and alternative asset management firm. This refocus allows Emerald to double down on events that align with its strategic priorities.

Instore Highlights Long-Term Vision for JA New York

Matthijs Braakman emphasized that Instore’s priority is to ensure JA New York evolves in step with the industry’s changing needs. The company plans to create an event that delivers tangible business outcomes for participants.

Braakman said the renewed focus will be on helping independent retailers find practical solutions and on strengthening the commercial connections between suppliers and buyers. Instore aims to foster a marketplace where meaningful deals and partnerships can form.

Industry Eyes Revival of Historic Trade Platform

The acquisition has attracted attention across the jewellery sector as stakeholders observe how Instore will reshape JA New York’s future. Many industry observers believe this move could help restore momentum to the trade show after years of disruption from evolving retail habits and the pandemic. If executed well, the relaunched events could reinvigorate networking, boost sourcing opportunities for retailers, and create a stronger marketplace for designers and manufacturers.
