Complementing the Mega CFC, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the New Enterprises & Services Tower (NEST)-01 at SEEPZ-SEZ. This new facility is strategically designed to accommodate gem and jewellery sector units that will be relocated from the existing Standard Design Factory – I. NEST-01 addresses the industry’s demand for larger, more modern spaces conducive to large-scale production, enabling businesses to expand operations and adopt more efficient manufacturing processes. Its inauguration underscores a broader governmental effort to upgrade and modernise the infrastructure within SEZs, ensuring they remain competitive and attractive hubs for investment and industrial growth.

The inauguration was met with widespread enthusiasm from industry leaders, who lauded the government’s visionary approach. Shri Vipul Shah, Chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), expressed profound gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, highlighting the era of remarkable development being steered across all sectors. “His visionary strides towards shaping a Viksit Bharat are not only evident in groundbreaking policy reforms, but also in the development of infrastructure that promises to redefine the business landscape,” Shah stated. He emphasised the Mega CFC’s critical role in the industry’s ambitious plan to double the SEZ export target from $7 billion to $15 billion, thereby unlocking an untapped potential of around $30 billion for the sector.
Shah further detailed GJEPC’s pivotal role in bringing the Bharat Ratnam Mega CFC to fruition, from its conceptualisation and feasibility study by the National Productivity Council to the signing of an MoU to operate the centre in collaboration with SEEPZ and the Government of India. This collaborative spirit between government and industry is a hallmark of the project’s success.

Shri Kirit Bhansali, Vice Chairman of GJEPC, underscored how the Mega CFC effectively bridges crucial gaps for MSMEs, which form the backbone of the jewellery manufacturing and retail sectors. Many smaller businesses face significant affordability constraints when it comes to modern technology, research & development, and skilled manpower. “Bharat Ratnam bridges this gap to maintain competitiveness through the latest in 3-Ts (Technology, Techniques, and Training) from across the globe at a single facilitation centre,” Bhansali affirmed, predicting that the centre is “poised to become a game-changer, shaping the future of the industry by providing a conducive environment for cutting-edge technology.”
The innovative concept of the Bharat Ratnam Mega CFC, as explained by Shri Colin Shah, Head – Working Group, Bharat Ratnam, Mega CFC, centres on making high-tech resources universally accessible. “This groundbreaking concept is centred on making high-tech resources accessible to every entrepreneur involved in the global and domestic jewellery manufacturer,” he noted. This democratisation of technology, backed by robust support from the Commerce and Industry Ministry and the Government of India, is transforming the industry landscape, empowering every individual to engage in jewellery manufacturing at the highest level. The centre’s comprehensive 360-degree service model aims to equip entrepreneurs with necessary skills, connect them with global customers, and provide continuous learning opportunities through seminars and workshops.

The strategic layout of Bharat Ratnam reflects its multi-faceted mission. The first three floors are dedicated to housing advanced technologies and manufacturing facilities. The fourth floor is a vibrant hub for worker training, with a special focus on creating opportunities for deaf and mute workers through partnerships with local NGOs, exemplifying the centre’s commitment to social inclusion. The fifth floor is designed to foster global connections, serving as a dynamic space for buyer-seller meets. Finally, the sixth floor hosts a state-of-the-art Convention Centre, providing a year-round venue for symposiums, offering entrepreneurs access to invaluable knowledge and networking opportunities. Shri Bobby Kothari, a Member of the Working Group for Bharat Ratnam, highlighted the centre’s dedication to advancing “Technology, Techniques, and Training,” ensuring equitable access to associated benefits for every industry participant, regardless of size. This commitment is expected to enhance the quality, diversity, and efficiency of offerings, extending its impact far beyond the SEEPZ zone.

Shri Rajesh Kumar Mishra, IRS Zonal Development Commissioner, SEEPZ-SEZ, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister for initiating the transformation of SEZs, beginning successfully with SEEPZ Mumbai. He stressed that this essential renovation and upgrade were timely necessities that would further boost gem and jewellery exports from India. Crucially, the Mega CFC facilities will be made available at reasonable rates not only to SEEPZ-SEZ units but also to factories outside the zone, improving output in terms of quality, productivity, and yield of finished jewellery.
Shri C. P. S. Chauhan, IRS, Joint Development Commissioner, SEEPZ-SEZ, remarked on the astonishing speed of construction, noting that Bharat Ratnam, India’s first Mega CFC, was completed within a mere 14-month period. This remarkable achievement, he stated, “illustrates the collaboration between the Government, GJEPC, and SEEPZ for their collective efforts in completing this project in record time.”
Shri Neville Tata, another Member of the Working Group for Bharat Ratnam, described the Mega CFC as an “unparalleled gift to the gems and jewellery trade,” underscoring the Commerce Ministry’s commitment to both SEZs and Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) markets. Executed under the guidance of SEEPZ SEZ officials and managed by GJEPC, this monumental project in Mumbai’s financial heart aims to enable the trade to manufacture a greater number of pieces for export, thereby boosting economies of scale. As the industry sets its sights on reaching a $75 billion mark in the coming years, these initiatives align seamlessly with the visionary goals of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal, whose invaluable support and guidance have been instrumental in realising this transformative endeavour.

- Advanced Training & Skilling School: The school is equipped to accommodate 200 students in each batch, offering a comprehensive 4-month program.
